Teaneck, NJ – The Wagner men's tennis team remained undefeated in Northeast Conference (NEC) action as the Seahawks earned a 4-3 road win at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon.
The Green & White moves to 9-8 overall and 3-0 in league play while the Knights falter to 3-13 and 1-3 in conference matches.
Wagner went up 1-0 in the match by taking two-of-three in doubles play. Junior
Eric Poland and sophomore
Dylan Walters won their ninth straight doubles match, defeating the pairing of Adam Chan and Moric Budinszky, 6-0, at No. 2.
Juniors
Anatoliy Lashkul and
Dale Sandy edged the Knights' duo of Niclas Pietsch and Andris Gudins, 7-5 at Flight No. 1. For Lashkul and Sandy, it marked the 11th win for the pairing this season, one of three Seahawk pairings with double-digit wins this season.
In singles action, the Seahawks went ahead 3-0 in the overall match after back-to-back wins at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively. Poland defeated Chan, 6-0; 7-6 (8-6) at Flight No. 4 while sophomore
Hans Ohrner outlasted Maciej Autuch, 4-6; 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3.
Fairleigh Dickinson was victorious at No. 1 and No. 2 to trim the deficit to 3-2 before senior
Charlton Boyd clinched the match for the visitors, defeating Budinszky, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. For Boyd, this afternoon's victory marked the 70th career singles win in Boyd's Seahawk career, the most in program history. The Shreveport, LA now holds a career mark of 70-24, while improving to 22-3 overall this season and 14-1 in dual match play.
The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, April 14 as they travel to New Haven, CT to take on Sacred Heart.
