Staten Island, NY – The 7-4 Wagner women's lacrosse team, winners of three straight and alone atop the Northeast Conference (NEC) standings at 2-0, will host the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers in a key league test on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. start at Hameline Field.
The Seahawks opened their first weekend of NEC play by earning a sweep of their Western Pennsylvania swing, knocking off Robert Morris 12-9 on April 6 before running past Saint Francis U by a 17-9 count.
Mount St. Mary's enters Saturday's play with an overall record of 6-5 and 1-1 in NEC play. The Mountaineers earned a 10-3 victory over Saint Francis U on April 6 before dropping a 14-4 decision at Robert Morris on April 8.
The Wagner-Mount matchup will be a battle between the two highest-rated teams in the most recent NCAA RPI index, with the Mountaineers coming in at No. 64 and the Seahawks at 71.
Wagner has been paced this season by the play of its defense, as senior goalie
Lucy Darlington leads the way with save percentage of .510, which ranks No. 12 in the nation.
Senior midfielder
Lauren Ednie, in addition to being the team's second-leading scorer with 32 points (30g, 2a), paces the Seahawks with 1.55 caused turnovers (CT) per game (No. 6 in NEC), while junior
Maddie Courtney averages 1.45 CTs per game (No. 9 NEC), followed by sophomore
Lindsay Haas, who checks in at 1.36 CTs per game (No. 11 NEC).
Offensively, junior attack
Anna Belle Reilly, who delivered a masterful eight-point performance last time out at Saint Francis U with two goals and a career-high six assists, is Wagner's team-leader in points with 33 (13g, ,20a).
Right behind Ednie's No. 2 ranking on the team in points is freshman midfielder
Ally Alliegro, a three-time NEC Rookie of the Week winner this season, who has produced 27 points (17g, 10a) and a team-best 29 draw controls.
