Stanford, CA – Backed by three runs on 10 hits, the Wagner College softball team earned a 3-2 victory over CSU Bakersfield on Friday at Stanford University.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 3-7 on the year, while the Roadrunners fall to 1-13 on the season.
Wagner had multiple runners on base to start the game and finally broke through in the fifth inning to take the lead. A one-out double by junior
Karen Prihoda and a single by sophomore
Zoe Bender set the Seahawks up with two runners in scoring position.
An RBI single by senior
Stefanie Aplin two batters later gave Wagner a 1-0 lead, while freshman Kaila Conners followed with an RBI single to center field to double the lead to 2-0.
One inning later, the Green and White added an insurance run, as a double by senior
Maddie Marable, a walk to senior
Maite Reece and a base hit by Prihoda set Wagner up with the bases loaded. Three batters later, Aplin stayed patient at the plate and walked, scoring Marable for the 3-0 advantage.
The Roadrunners rallied in the seventh inning by scoring two runs, but freshman
Arielle Koerber shut the door in recording the final out on a groundout. The first-year Seahawk earned her third win of the season after going the distance, allowing two runs on six hits.
Prihoda, Aplin, and Marable all recorded multi-hit games offensively, with Bender, Serrato, Conners, and junior
Jessica Carlucci also recording base hits.
The Seahawks continue tournament action, as they take on Stanford University this afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 pm PT.
