Stanford, CA – Coming off a 3-2 victory over CSU Bakersfield in the first game of the weekend, the Wagner College softball team fell to Pac-12 member Stanford by a score of 4-0 on Friday night.
After earning the victory in the first game of the day, the Seahawks came out aggressively and battled the Cardinal, as junior
Jessica Carlucci and sophomore
Alyssa Tucker notched back-to-back hits in the second inning for the first base knocks of the contest.
Unable to capitalize, the Seahawks once again had two hits and threatened in the third, as senior
Maite Reece singled to center, while sophomore
Zoe Bender singled two batters later, but could not bring a run across the plate.
With the score knotted at 0-0 after three innings, Stanford scored three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the 4-0 victory.
Wagner had six hits throughout the contest, with Carlucci, Bender, Reece, Tucker, senior
Stefanie Aplin, and freshman
Kayla Conners all recording a hit.
In the circle, senior
Morgan Brown more than held her own, striking out three batters in six innings, while giving up just two earned runs.
Wagner returns this afternoon with back-to-back games against Stanford and CSU Bakersfield, starting at 11:00 am PT.
