No. 18 Women's Water Polo Defeats St. Francis Brooklyn And Marist

New Rochelle, NY – The 18th-ranked Wagner women's water polo team picked up two wins to remain undefeated in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, as the Seahawks downed St. Francis Brooklyn 22-8, before defeating Marist 13-6.

The Green & White advances to 13-6 overall and 5-0 in MAAC conference play with the victories and claims sole possession of first place. Senior captain Lacey Anderson recorded her 200th career steal in the second matchup of the day as the Seahawks defeated the Red Foxes 13-6, becoming just the sixth player in Wagner history to do so.

Game 1: Wagner 22, SFBK 8
Wagner jumped to a 4-0 lead before the end of the first quarter as senior utility Kimberly Watson registered two goals while senior attack Elise Begg and junior attack Jacqui Sjogren added one goal apiece.

In the second period, the Seahawks began to pull away, firing off seven more goals. Sjogren led with three goals, senior attack Lacey Anderson added two, while junior attack Erica Hardy and Begg found the back of the net once each. The Terriers scored three goals in the second, as Wagner led 11-3 entering the second half.

The Green & White combined for 11 goals in the final 16 minutes of play.  Sjogren led the offense tallying seven total goals, followed by Watson and freshman utility Daisy Nankervis with four each. Hardy finished with a hat trick as Anderson and Begg each totaled two goals apiece. Nankervis, redshirt sophomore utility Kristy Donkin and sophomore attack Franciska Milo-Sidlo found the back of the net once, respectively, as Wagner downed the Terriers by the final score of 22-8.

The Seahawks again held their opponent scoreless in the first eight minutes of play in their second matchup of the day. Watson, Hardy, and Donkin each tallied one apiece in the first period.

The score was 7-4 at the end of the first half, with Hardy leading the offense with a hat trick. The Montreal, Quebec native dished out four assists on four Wagner goals in the third period, two of which were scored by Donkin.  Hardy then tallied the last two Seahawk goals during the final quarter.

Hardy finished with five goals, Donkin added three and Watson contributed two. Nankervis, Sjogren, and Begg each finished with one goal apiece to help the Seahawks to a 13-6 victory over the Red Foxes.

The Seahawks are back in action tomorrow, March 25, as they compete against host Iona at 9:00 a.m. and Villanova at 3:00 p.m.
