Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner men's tennis team, competing in their first match in nearly two weeks, dropped a 6-1 non-conference tilt on the road on Friday morning at American Athletic Conference (AAC) members, Temple.
The Seahawks, who have dropped two straight, fall to 4-4 on the season while the Owls improve to 7-3 on the season.
The Green & White got off to a fast start in doubles play this morning as the duo of junior
Eric Poland and sophomore
Dylan Walters earned a gritty 6-4 victory at No. 2 play over the pairing of Uladzimir Dorash and Francisco Bohorquez.
The Owls responded at No. 1 action, as Thomas Sevel and Alberto Casas Caceres edged out juniors
Anatoliy Lashkul and
Dale Sandy, 7-5, in knotting the match at 1-1. The doubles point came down to No. 3 doubles as it was a back-and-forth affair between junior Ilya Kneepelhout and senior
Charlton Boyd going up against Juan Araoz and Mark Wallner with Araoz and Wallner escaping with a 7-6 (7-4) win.
In singles action, Araoz, Wallner and Sevel each earned wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 1 singles action, respectively. Wagner was victorious at No. 6 as Boyd improved to 16-2 on the season and remained perfect in dual matches (8-0), picking up a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Eric Biscoveanu.
For Boyd, it marked career victory No. 64 (64-23) while also earning his 16th win at No. 6 play (16-4). The Shreveport, LA native remained undefeated in this slot (7-0).
Wagner is scheduled to return to the courts in two weeks as on March 16 the Seahawks will travel to Jersey City, NJ to tangle with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, Saint Peter's University. The match is slated for a 2:45 p.m. start.
