Waco, TX - The Wagner men's basketball team begins postseason play in the First Round of the 2018 National Invitational Tournament (NIT) as the Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season Seahawks meet top-seeded Baylor University Bears, of the Big 12 Conference this at 7:00 PM (Eastern) On ESPN 2.
Seahawk Tidbits:
Last Time Out For Wagner: vs. No. 4 LIU Brooklyn (Northeast Conference Championship | March 6, 2018):
- Redshirt junior guard Romone Saunders scored 17 points to lead three Seahawks in double figures, but it wasn't enough to offset LIU Brooklyn, which rode a 32-point effort from Joel Hernandez to a 71-61 win over Wagner in the 2018 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship game on Wednesday night in front of a spirited Spiro Sports Center sellout crowd of 2,330 fans, along with a national audience tuned in on ESPN2.
- The Seahawks were unable to find their shooting touch all night, as they wound up a season-low 30.0 percent from the floor. Their previous lowest shooting night was at Missouri (11/13) when the Green & White were 32.7 percent. In NEC play this season, Wagner's lowest shooting game was at Mount St. Mary's (2/24) when the Seahawks hit for 34.2 percent.
- Wagner was particularly, and uncharacteristically, cold from long range as the Green & White connected on just six off 33 attempts from the beyond the arc (18.2 percent).
- "Not the outcome that we wanted," said Wagner head coach Bashir Mason, who was named the Jim Phelan Northeast Conference (NEC) Coach of the Year for the second time in his six-year career. "You know, it was just a night where we couldn't throw the ball in the ocean. I thought my guys battled and thought they played extremely hard and they were dialed into the game plan, but you have to give LIU (Brooklyn) a lot of credit.
All-Time Series Against The Baylor University Bears:
All-Time vs. the Current Members of the Big 12 Conference:
- All-time, Wagner is 0-3 against the current members of the Big 12 Conference.
- The last time the Seahawks played a current Big 12 institution was back on December 30, 2008, when the Green & White, coached by Mike Deane, traveled to Manhattan, KS to take on the Wildcats, coached by then second-year bench boss Frank Martin, defeated Wagner, 82-53.
- The last time that Wagner faced a Big 12 team was on December 21, 2010 when the Seahawks dropped an 81-56 decision at No. 25 Texas A&M as the Aggies were Big 12 members when this game was played before joining the SEC in July, 2012.
- The head coaches in that Wagner-Texas A&M meeting were current Rhode Island head coach Dan Hurley, who was in his first of two seasons with the Seahawks, and Mark Turgeon, the current Maryland head coach who was in his fourth and final season with the Aggies.

- In receiving Coach of the Year honors, Mason becomes the first Seahawk coach in men's program history to win the award multiple times, having first won the honor back in 2016.
- In all, it marks the fourth time that a Seahawk bench boss has won the award: Mason (2015-16 & 2017-18), Dereck Whittenburg (2002-03) and Tim Capstraw (1991-92)
- Coach Mason becomes the tenth coach in NEC history to win two or more Coach of the Year awards. Serious Home Cooking:
- The Spiro Center has turned into a house of horrors for opponents this season, and Wagner head coach Bashir Mason and his players kept it that way, at least in the regular season.
- The 2017-18 Seahawks set a new program record for wins in a season at home with 16 as Wagner earned a 75-64 victory over the Robert Morris University Colonials in the 2018 NEC Semifinals.
- The Seahawks couldn't complete the perfect home season as they dropped a 71-61 decision to the newly crowned NEC Tournament champions, the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, snapping the nation's second-longest home win streak at 16 straight.
- Since the Spiro Sports Center opened on February 20, 1999, the Green & White have had nine seasons in which the team has posted double-digit victories, and the first since the 2015-16 season, when that squad, coached by Coach Mason, finished 13-4.

Milestone For Coach Mason:
- Head coach Bashir Mason, who is currently the sixth-youngest active head coach in Division I, reached a coaching career milestone on Saturday, January 20.
- In Wagner's 62-49 home victory over Robert Morris back on January 20th, Coach Mason earned his 100th career coaching victory.
- In the process, Coach Mason became just the third Seahawk bench boss to eclipse the 100 career wins, joining former coaches Herb Sutter (352) and Tim Capstraw (117).
- Additionally, Coach Mason and Capstraw are the only two Seahawk coaches to reach 100 wins in the Division I era, which began in 1976-77, under Wagner Hall of Famer and 3x-time NBA Champion, P.J. Carlesimo

Cooper Keeping Good Company:
- JoJo Cooper is currently one of only two players in the nation this season averaging at least 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game on the year. Jon Elmore of Marshall has also reached these minimums.
- If the senior guard maintains those statistical plateaus for the remainder of the season, he would be just the 10th player in the last 25 years to end the year as a 14p/5.5r/6a/1.5s man.
- How exclusive is that list?
- Of the nine players who have achieved the statistical feat, seven have played in the NBA, including current ballers Kyle Anderson (Spurs), Lonzo Ball (Lakers) and Kyle Collinsworth (Mavericks). The list also includes former NBA All-Stars Jason Kidd and Penny Hardaway, and former NBA players Luke Walton and Eddie Gill.
