Stanford, CA – The Wagner College softball team fell to Stanford University by a score of 4-0 on the final day of the Stanford Eastin Classic on Sunday.
Wagner returns from its California road trip with a 4-10 overall record on the season after sweeping CSU Bakersfield over the past two days, while Stanford, which competes in the Pac-12 conference, improves to 18-8 overall on the year.
The Cardinal got on the board in the first inning on an error as well as an RBI double by Molly Fowkes to put Stanford up 3-0.
Stanford added one more run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to left to extend its lead to 4-0.
Wagner fought back in the fifth inning, as sophomore
Kaila Smith, who homered in yesterday's victory over CSU Bakersfield, singled through the left side for her first hit of the afternoon, but was unable to advance into scoring position.
In the seventh, senior
Stefanie Aplin reached base on a leadoff walk, but the Green and White could not capitalize, as the Cardinal earned the 4-0 victory.
Junior
Ciera Luna was charged with the loss in her first decision of the season, throwing all six innings while giving up just one earned run on eight hits.
Next up, the Seahawks will play their first contest of the year in New York State, as they travel across town for a doubleheader at Manhattan College, scheduled for March 20 at 2:00 pm.
