Providence, RI – The Wagner women's water polo team (4-3) defeated No. 25 Bucknell by a count of 13-10 on Sunday to conclude the Bruno Classic with a perfect 3-0 record.
The Bison led the Seahawks 3-2 after the first stanza despite a pair of goals from senior utility
Kimberly Watson and sophomore attack
Jacqui Sjogren.
Entering the second period, Bucknell added another goal from Ally Furano to give the Bison a two-goal lead. A trio of Seahawks hit back-to-back-to-back goals, as Watson, junior attack
Erica Hardy, and Sjogren gave the Green & White a one goal lead at the halfway point.
The third quarter was another back-and-forth affair, beginning with Bison goals from Shyla Lintz and Ally Furano. Watson registered two more goals in the third period along with one from freshman
Kristy Donkin which gave Wagner a 8-7 lead before the start of the fourth and final period of play.
The Seahawk offense came out strong in the fourth, with three unanswered goals from Sjogren, Watson, and senior attack
Elise Begg. Bucknell's Marta Considine tallied one in the fourth but it wouldn't be enough, as Watson added in two more insurance goals to secure the victory for the Green & White with a final count of 13-10.
Wagner's 3-0 mark at the Bruno Classic included two victories over Top-25 ranked opponents in No. 13 San Diego State and No. 25 Bucknell, along with a win over McKendree.
The Seahawks next travel to Lewisburg, PA for the Bucknell Invite which will take place on February 10-11.
