Raleigh, NC – The Wagner College softball team earned a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Delaware State on the final day of the Homewood Suites Invitational, hosted by North Carolina State University.
With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 2-3 on the year, while the Hornets fall to 0-7 this year.
In today's contest, the Seahawks fell behind in the second inning on a Vanessa Washington home run for what proved to be the lone run Delaware State put on the board today.
The Green and White answered back in the fourth inning. Junior
Jessica Carlucci belted a two-run home run over the left field fence, scoring junior
Lauren Serrato and giving the Seahawks a 2-1 lead in the process.
Defensively, freshman
Arielle Koerber turned in another impressive performance, going the distance while allowing just one run on four hits for the second win of her career and first complete game as a Seahawk.
As a team, the Seahawks combined for six hits, as junior
Karen Prihoda and Carlucci led the way with two base hits apiece, while sophomore
Zoe Bender, Serrato, and sophomore
Kaila Smith also had hits in the contest.
Next up, Wagner travels west for the Louisville Slugger Tournament, hosted by the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, from March 2 to March 6.
