Palo Alto, CA - The Wagner men's water polo team (10-10; 5-2 MAWPC) fell to No. 2 Stanford 19-4 at the Avery Aquatic Center on Friday night.
Despite a hat trick from junior driver
Matthew Miller, the Seahawks were unable to match the Cardinal offense. Stanford led the whole game, jumping to an early 8-0 start before the end of the first eight minutes of play. A ninth Cardinal goal began the second stanza before Miller struck the back of the net for the first of three goals on the match from the San Ramon, CA native.
Miller added his second goal of the game, followed by a dish to sophomore driver
Jasmin Kolasinac as the Serbian tallied his first and only score of the game. By the end of the third period, Stanford led the Seahawks 17-4. The fourth and final quarter entailed two more goals for the Cardinal.
Despite a 19-4 loss, senior goalie
Cameron Woldt made nine saves and Kolasinac drew three exclusions while Miller tabbed two steals to go along with his hat trick.
Wagner remains in California as the Seahawks will compete at the Julian Fraser Memorial, hosted by Santa Clara University when they will take on the host Broncos and No. 15 California Baptist on Saturday. On Sunday, the Green & White will Square off against Air Force and Fresno Pacific.
