Boston, MA - The Wagner men's water polo team (10-8) stunned No. 13 Brown, defeating the Bears by 1, with a final score of 10-9. To conclude the tournament, the Green & White fell in a close 13-12 matchup against host Harvard.
Wagner 10, Brown 9:
Senior driver
Teo Dadic gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead to begin the game, followed by a five meter penalty shot which was saved by senior goalie
Cameron Woldt.
Sophomore driver
Jasmin Kolasinac was able to find the back of the net for his first goal of the game, capitalizing on a penalty.
The Bears netted their first goal of the game before freshman utility
Vuk Bulajic snuck a shot past the Brown goalie for a goal, making the score 3-2.
Bulajic and Kolasinac each registered their second goal of the game, respectively before the first period ended with a score of 4-2 in favor of Wagner.
Sophomore lefty
Jack Leighton notched a goal before three Brown goals allowed the Bears to take the lead, 6-5. However, Bulajic secured his third goal of the game, knotting the score at 6-6 at halftime.
The second half included back and forth goals from both teams, as Brown scored first in the third stanza. Kolasinac was able to score again and tie the game at 7-7.
A long pass from senior goalie
Cameron Woldt to help Dadic find the back of the net gave the Green & White a one goal advantage. Shortly after, Brown fired back, tying the score at 8.
Leighton gave the Seahawks a 9-8 lead heading into the final period. Bulajic scored his fourth of the game with just 1:35 remaining on the clock.
The Bears capitalized on a penalty with six seconds remaining in the game, but it would not be enough, as the Seahawks prevailed with a final score of 10-9.
Harvard 13, Wagner 12:
Harvard jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Woldt made his second 5 meter save of the day. A pass from junior driver
Oscar Nomura to Bulajic got the Seahawk on the board at 2-1.
Kolasinac then utilized on a man up, followed by another goal to give the Seahawks a 3-2 lead.
Wold made a one-on-one save to kickstart the second stanza. The Crimson struck to knot the game again at 3-3.
Dadic and Kolasinac were able to extend the lead to 2, but Harvard answered with a goal of its own.
Back and forth goals from both teams made the matchup close, but two more goals from Kolasinac and another from Dadic put Wagner ahead 8-6 at the halfway point.
The third quarter ended in a stalemate at 10-10, as Harvard tallied four goals and the Green & White scored two goals, including Kolasinac's sixth of the game and Leighton's first.
The final stanza included competitive play from both teams, as junior utility
Lachlan Trabinger was the first for either team to net a goal in the final eight minutes. Trabinger was answered by a Harvard goal, evening the score at 11-11.
Head coach
Chris Radmonovich called a timeout with 4:51 remaining to talk over some strategy with his players.
Coming out of the timeout, the Crimson notched a go-ahead goal which was then answered by Kolasinac in his seventh goal of the game, equalizing the score at 12-12 with just 1:34 to play.
After a Harvard time out, the Crimson found the back of the net and securing the win with a final score of 13-12.
