15th Annual Ted Owen Cross Country Invitational (Results)
New Britain, CT – The Wagner men's cross country team finished third at the 15th Annual Ted Owen Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Northeast Conference (NEC) member, Central Connecticut, on Saturday morning.
The Sacred Heart University Pioneers took home the team title, followed by Saint Francis U and the Seahawks. The host Blue Devils placed fourth followed by NJIT, Hartford, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Francis Brooklyn rounding out the nine-team field.
Individually, the Green & White had four harriers place among the top-25 with two student-athletes among the top-15 as senior
Joseph Abbatiello (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) crossed the finish line in 12
th place with a time of 27:36.5. Junior
Matthew Whalen (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) was the second Seahawk among the top-15, clocking in with a time of 27:51.8.
Other notable performances for the 15th Annual Ted Owen Invitational include sophomore
Nick Velez (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea), who posted a finals time of 28:02.4 to finish 18
th while sophomore
Jonathan Besselink (Kingston, Ontario/ Holy Cross Catholic Secondary) ran 28:14.5 to place 23
rd in the event.
Today's meet marks the first of three times that the Seahawks will compete at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT as the park will be the host of the 2017 NEC Championship on October 28.
Wagner will next be in action on October 7 as they compete in the NJIT Highlander XC Challenge in Newark, NJ at Branch Brook Park.
