New Rochelle, NY – Led by a six-goal outburst from freshman driver
Jasmin Kolasinac (Belgrade, Serbia / King's College), the Wagner College men's water polo upped its winning streak to four with a 12-9 victory over Iona on Wednesday at the Hynes Athletic Center Pool.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 7-4 on the season while the Gaels fall to 3-6.
Senior utility
Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia / St. Aloysius College [Golden West College]) and freshman driver
Jordi Alonso (Barcelona, Spain /
Jesuites Sarria-Sant Ignasi) notched two goals apiece while sophomore driver
Oscar Nomura (Irvine, CA / Irvine) and sophomore utility
Luigi Paparella (Huntington Beach, CA / Marina) each supplied one goal on the evening.
Defensively, Junior goalie
Cameron Woldt (San Diego, CA / Serra High School [San Diego Mesa College]) tallied 10 saves. In addition to his six-goal offensive output,
Kolasinac, recorded four steals, tying junior utility
Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec /
Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) for team-high honors, as the Green & White forced the Gaels into committing 28 turnovers in the contest.
Wagner used a 5-0 first-half run, bridging the first and second quarters, in building a 9-3 lead at the intermission.
Andrew Judge paced Iona with three goals, while Marc
Stauble and Quinn Lloyd
addded two apiece. Starting goalie Jorge Andres Torres had seven saves on 21 Wagner shots before giving way to Sebastian Van Reeken who came on to record eight saves on 15 shots.
The Seahawks, who were coming off of a
3-0 showing at last weekend's Bison Invitational, will be back in action on Saturday, September 30 in Washington, DC when they square off against the George Washington University Colonials at 2:00 p.m.
