Providence, RI – The Wagner College men's water polo team, in its second year of existence, is scheduled to begin its 2017 season over the Labor Day weekend at the 2017 Bruno Classic, hosted by Brown University.
The 2017 Green & White squad is composed of 23 student-athletes, 10 of which are incoming freshmen, eight sophomores, three juniors, and one senior.
"We are entering the 2017 season with another very young team," said head coach
Chris Radmonovich. "However, we have strong leadership among our older players, which will make a huge impact once the first whistle is blown, as well as down the line when it is time for league play."
Among Wagner's non-freshman is senior captain
Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia / St. Aloysius College/Golden West College). A transfer from Golden West who played on the Seahawks inaugural team in 2016, the Australian native helped lead the Rustlers to a league championship in 2014 and a second place finish in 2015. As a Seahawk, Wolohan was an All-MAWPC First Team Selection after leading the neophyte team with 68 goals, 37 steals, and 95 drawn exclusions.
In the Cage
The Seahawks' defense will feature a new face this season with junior transfer
Cameron Woldt (San Diego, CA / Serra High School [San Diego Mesa College}) guarding the cage. The goalie rejoins former teammate
Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec / Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) on Grymes Hill after transferring from San Diego Mesa College where the duo won the 2015 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. In 2016, Woldt went on to lead the California Community Athletic Association with 367 saves en route to being named the league's Most Valuable Defensive Player.

For the second straight year, the Seahawks open their 32-game slate on Labor Day weekend with four matches at the Brown Bruno Classic in Providence, RI. The Green & White will face a pair of West Coast teams, No. 16 California Baptist University (CBU) and No. 5 University of the Pacific on September 2 before battling Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and No. 10 Harvard University on September 3. The matchup with MIT will be one to look forward to as the Seahawks will look to reverse a 14-13 loss to the Engineers in 2016.
All games will be streamed
here, starting with the Seahawks first match-up against CBU on September 2 at 9:50 am.
In the Polls
The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) released the 2017 preseason polls earlier this week. The Green & White were chosen to finish T4 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference along with Fordham University. In 2016, Wagner went 1-1 against the Rams during the regular season before being defeated 9-7 in the opening round of the conference tournament.
Additionally, the Seahawks are slated to face three top-20 teams at the Bruno Classic in No. 5 Pacific, No. 10 Harvard, and No. 16 Cal Baptist.
