Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY / Susan E. Wagner) of the Seahawk baseball team have been named the Walsh Electric Student-Athletes of the month for May.
Senior outfielder
Brianna Tredway finished the season on a tear, being named to the NEC All-Tournament team while capturing the league's regular-season batting title. Tredway collected four hits and six RBIs during the championship weekend, including the game-winning three-run home run that lifted the Green and White over Sacred Heart to advance to the championship series. During the regular season, the outfielder led the NEC with a .402 average, which ranked 63rd in the NCAA. In hitting a robust .440 over the span of 16 league games, the senior had 22 hits and 11 RBIs and finished her career with 71 RBIs on 175 hits, 37 doubles, and a .319 career average. Tredway was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, All-NEC First Team, and NFCA All-Region Second Team.
For the month of May, freshman designated hitter
Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ]) batted .369 (24-for-65) with 16 runs scored, two doubles, seven home runs and 20 RBIs. In 15 games during the month, Sabido slugged .723 and posted an on-base percentage of .417. Additionally, the towering 6-7 left-hander went 1-0 on the mound with a 1.23 ERA in three games out of the bullpen. In 7.1 innings of work, he allowed just one earned run with four strikeouts. The first-year Seahawks enjoyed a tremendous rookie campaign, finishing fourth on the squad with a .297 batting average while clubbing a team-best nine round trippers and driving in 31 RBIs. The nine home runs this year are the tenth-best single-season home run total in Wagner history, surpassing former Seahawk Peter Delleani'
s eight homers, set back in 2007. A two-time Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week selection, Sabido had back-to-back two home run games, coming against Fairleigh Dickinson back on May 6. On the hill, Sabido finished with a 1.20 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 15 innings. For his accomplishments this season, the NEC announced that Sabido was named to the All-NEC Second, becoming one of five Seahawks this season to earn all-league honors.
