Zhane Stones (Philadelphia, PA/School of the Future) of the Wagner women's track & field team and freshman
Dylan Beard (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) of the Seahawk men's track & field team have been named the Walsh Electric Student-Athletes of the Month for January.
Stones earned her fifth career Northeast Conference (NEC) Field Athlete of the Week award and second for the month of January. The Philadelphia, PA native increased her NEC lead in the weight throw by becoming the league's first athlete to exceed the 17.00m mark this season at the Lehigh John Covert Classic. Stones' first fling went for 17.56m and the mark held up for a first-place finish amongst collegiate competitors. The performance allowed the veteran to crack the Top-20 on the list for the ECAC Championships. At the Wagner College Invitational, Stones took third in the shot put with a throw of 14.46m, besting her school record in the event (14.09m set back on 12/2/16).
Freshman
Dylan Beard (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) captured the men's indoor track & field Rookie of the Week twice in the month of January. Beard continues his impressive indoor campaign, taking first place in the 60H with a time of 8.06 at the Wagner College Invitational. The first-year Seahawk rewrote the history books with his performance, as he now owns that school record, besting Erik Hjartnes' mark that stood since 2006 (8.13). His time ranks among the top-15 by all NCAA freshmen this year and is among the top-100 in the nation in the event.
