Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ / Morristown-Beard School) of the Seahawk men's lacrosse team have been named the Walsh Electric Student-Athletes of the month for February.
The month of February marked the last month of Nihipali's swimming career as a Seahawk as she went out with four medals at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships, helping the Green & White secure a third-place finish. The Honolulu, HI, native broke her own NEC record in the 200-yard backstroke by one-hundredth of a second in her last collegiate backstroke race, as she touched the wall in 1:58.32. Nihipali also won the 100 backstroke and 200 medley relay at the conference championship meet and took home silver as part of the 400 medley relay.
Sefcik's month was highlighted on February 17 when he came up with a career-high 17 saves in leading the Seahawks' to one of their top wins in program history, a thrilling 9-8 victory over Patriot League member Lafayette. For his efforts, Sefcik was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week. For the month, the second-year Seahawk recorded 54 saves in Wagner's four games, registering a .551 save percentage and an average of 13.5 saves per game which ranks second in the NEC. In addition to his 17-save outing vs. Lafayette, Sefcik recorded 14 saves against No. 10 Rutgers (2/28), 13 vs. Manhattan (2/11), and 10 vs. Monmouth (2/21).
