Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory in Northeast Conference (NEC) play against the 12-time league champions, Fairleigh Dickinson.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 12-7 and 4-1 in league play while the Knights fall to 5-11 and 1-3 in conference matches.

"This match has been circled on our calendar all season," commented second-year head coach Jason Sinkoff. "We knew we were going to have to play our best tennis today to earn the victory and our guys stepped up in their games today."

"There is something to playing big matches in front of your home crowd, and today, our fans were unbelievable," said Sinkoff. "We had a great showing today, and the atmosphere was fantastic. We couldn't have won today if it wasn't for their support."

Wagner took all three games in doubles play to take a 1-0 edge in the overall match. Sophomore Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) and freshman Dylan Walters (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithians Boys' College) improved to 7-2 on the season after earning the victory at No. 2 over Pedro Carvalho/Gonzalo Quintana, 6-2.

Junior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) and sophomore Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands/Scala College Secondary School) posted their 29th career doubles victory after defeating Salomon Koster/Diogo Garnel, 6-4 in No. 3 play. Lastly, sophomores Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine/High School #78) and Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School) moved to team-best 16-9 on the year, besting Danilo Vukotic/Adam Chan, 6-4 at Flight No. 1.

In singles action, the Seahawks captured four singles victories. Lashkul put the home team up 2-1 after edging Quintana, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sandy defeated Chan, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
"Dale (Sandy) and Anatoliy (Lashkul) impressed me with their play and determination today," commented Sinkoff. "They both were down early in the match and had to battle back and did just that."

Rounding out the victories this afternoon for the Seahawks were Poland's 6-4; 6-2 win over Garnel in No. 5 while Boyd recorded career singles triumph No. 47, outlasting Koster, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 10-5.

The regular season finale is set for Saturday, April 15 as the Seahawks take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, Niagara, at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
