WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Wagner Men's tennis competed against Monmouth on Tuesday in a tournament-style match. The two teams faced off in three total doubles matches and six singles matches.
In the first round of matches, redshirt sophomore
Lukas Escher and senior
Tyler Nguyen won their match at second doubles, taking down the Hawks' Axel Engstrom and Aiden Miller in straight sets (7-5, 6-0). This was the only doubles match of the three where Wagner came out on top.
Escher would also win Wagner's only singles match of the day, when he defeated Miller by the score of 6-2, 6-4. Junior
Eddie Schmidt and sophomore
Nicola Bottelberghs each came close to winning their singles matches, with both of them splitting the first two sets. However, neither could win the final 10-point tiebreaker set, and match ended with only two wins for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks will return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 10, as they participate in the Fordham Invitational at the Hawthorn-Rooney Tennis Courts.
