Staten Island, NY - Pitching dominated in game one of Saturday's doubleheader as the Wagner College baseball team was shutout, 1-0, by the Bryant University Bulldogs at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
With the loss, the Seahawks fell to 6-15 and 2-3 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action while Bryant improved to 8-18 and 3-1 in league contests.
Wagner starter, senior co-captain
Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) suffered his first loss of the season after lasting five innings, while giving up two hits, an earned run, walking five and striking out four. Freshman reliever
Nick Robino (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum School) came on in relief of Marsh, tossing two scoreless innings while striking out one. Sophomore catcher
James Wise (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) had the lone hit on the afternoon for the Green & White.
Bryant's James Karinchak went the distance in giving up just the one base hit to Wise while striking out 11 and not walking a batter. Nick Angelini had the game-winning hit and RBI for the visitors. Chris Wright and Jimmy Titus also added hits for the Bulldogs.
After Marsh and Karinchak traded zeros over the first four innings, Bryant scored in the top of the fourth. With two outs, back-to-back walks to Joe Paparelli and Cole Fabio gave Bryant runners on first and second. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Angelini roped a single through the right side, scoring Paparelli for the game's only run.
