Men's Tennis Set To Host Delaware On Saturday And Fairleigh Dickinson On Sunday

Staten Island, NY - Winners of four of their last six matches, the Wagner College men's tennis team returns to Grymes Hill after a 12-match road trip. The Seahawks will take on the University of Delaware on April 8 and close out the weekend with a pivotal Northeast Conference (NEC) match against the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights.

ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS:
  • Wagner sports a 4-0 mark at home this season. Under head coach Jason Sinkoff, the 2016-17 Seahawks have four players with double-digit singles victories, led by freshman Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL/Coral Springs Christian Academy), who paces the squad with 13 singles wins.
  • Junior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) and sophomore Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine/High School #78) each have 12 wins.
  • Sophomore Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) has 11 victories on the season.
  • Second-year Seahawk Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School) needs one more singles victory to reach double-figures, which would mark the third consecutive season in which five Seahawks reached the double-figure win totals and second straight under Coach Sinkoff.
SCOUTING THE UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE BLUE HENS:
  • The Blue Hens stopped a four-match losing streak when they traveled to Rider University on Wednesday, defeating The Broncs, 7-0, in Lawrenceville, NJ.
  • Dominick Perez leads the Blue Hens with 13 wins in singles play.
  • The pairing of Tyler Flematti /Colin Wong leads the team with five victories in doubles action.

SCOUTING THE FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS:
  • Before squaring off with the Seahawks, Fairleigh Dickinson takes on Bryant on April 8 in Teaneck, NJ.
  • In their most recently completed match, the Knights defeated in-state rival, Saint Peter's, 7-0.
  • Pedro Carvalho earned his team-leading 11th singles victory of the season.
  • Carvalho and Diogo Garnel earned their team-best eighth doubles victory in a 6-0 shutout against the Peacocks

NEXT UP FOR THE SEAHAWKS:
  • Wagner closes out the 2016-17 regular season with its final non-conference tilt of the season, as the Seahawks host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, the Niagara University Purple Eagles. The match is set for 10:00 am at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
