South Orange, NJ – The Wagner College baseball team dropped its midweek, non-conference tilt against Big East members, Seton Hall, 9-2, on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 5-14 on the season while the Pirates improve to 14-12 while extending their win streak over Wagner to seven straight games.

Junior LF Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) paced the Seahawks at the plate, going 2-for-3 while driving in both runs for the Green & White on the afternoon. Junior RF Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) extended his hit streak to seven straight as he went 1-for-4. Sophomores 1B Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) and catcher James Wise (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), along with junior 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South), added hits for the Seahawks on the afternoon.

Freshman Ethan Pritchett (Camden, NJ/Neumann-Goretti) lasted 2.1 innings in his second career start, giving up three runs (two earned) while allowing six hits and two walks in taking the loss (0-2). The backend of the Green & White's bullpen, consisting of freshman Nick Robino (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum School), senior RHP Eric McGough (Media, PA/Archbishop John Carroll) and sophomore RHP Douglas Molnar (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) combined to throw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Seton Hall plated the game's first run in their half of the first with two-outs. Ryan Ramiz drew a walk and moved into scoring position on a failed pickoff attempt by Pritchett. With the count full (3-2), Mikael-Ali Mogues doubled down the right field line, scoring Ramiz from second to give the home team a 1-0 edge.

In the bottom of the third, the Pirates tacked on two more runs in taking a 3-0 lead. Ramiz led off the frame for SHU with a triple to the deepest part of center field. Mogues sent a sacrifice fly that was corralled by the Seahawks SS, junior Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]), as Ramiz was able to score the second run of the contest.  Mike Caputo sent a double to left center that scored Mike Alescio in giving the home team a 3-0 advantage. Freshman reliever Rico Viani (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) was able to come on in relief of Pritchett and retire the final two batters, ending the stanza.

The Seahawks got on the board in the top half of the fourth. Capra led off the frame ripping Seton Hall's starter, Chris Morris' 2-0 pitch to right field as Capra jetted his way to third. Godino was able bring in Capra as he delivered a double to left center field in cutting the deficit to 3-1.  Seton Hall responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, in extending its lead to 7-1. The Pirates sent nine batters to the plate and recorded just two hits during the stanza in taking the six-run lead.

Wagner was able to get one back in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back base hits from Wise and Brey gave the visitors runners on first and second with no one out. Morris was able to retire Cala and Mazzio on just three pitches. Capra drew a four pitch walk that loaded the bases for Godino. The third-year Seahawk was able to run the count full before being plunked with an errant pitch that allowed Wise to trot in from third.

Seton Hall scored the game's final two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Matt Fortin reached on fielder's choice which scored Ramiz, who walked to begin the inning. Connor Hood lofted a sacrifice fly to right field which plated Mogues for the final tally of the contest.

The Seahawks resume Northeast Conference (NEC) play this weekend as they welcome the defending league champions, the Bryant University Bulldogs for a four-game set. This series will commence on Friday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George.
