Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's tennis team concluded the 2016-17 regular season with their seventh shutout victory of the year, defeating the Niagara University Purple Eagles, 7-0, on Saturday morning.

With the win, the Seahawks finish the regular season at 13-7 and 4-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. The Green & White will enter the upcoming NEC Tournament riding a three-match win streak. Niagara falls to 4-16 on the season.

"This morning was our last regular season contest before we get set to compete in the NEC Tournament," commented second-year head coach, Jason Sinkoff. "We treated the match as if the tournament has already started and played with high intensity all game long."

Sophomores Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine/High School #78) and Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School) earned their team-leading 17th doubles victory as they picked up a 6-2 win over Felipe Fuentes/Francis Nadeau at No. 1 Flight doubles.

Reigning NEC Player of the Week, sophomore Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) and freshman Dylan Walters (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithians Boys' College) moved to 8-2 on the season after their victory at No. 2 doubles.

Junior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) and sophomore Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands/Scala College Secondary School) improved to 30-11 all-time as a tandem after besting Josh Wilson/Lukas Wenninger, 6-4.

The Seahawks took all six singles matches. Lashkul picked up his team-leading 15th singles win of the season at No. 1 singles. Sandy earned career victory No. 22 at No. 2 Flight singles. Poland posted his 25th singles victory and sixth win out of the No. 5 spot this season while Boyd secured career victory No. 48 while garnering his eighth triumph at No. 6 this season.

Wagner will turn its attention to the upcoming NEC Championships, set to begin on April 21 through April 23 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.
