Women's Water Polo Concludes Regular Season April 15 Against Villanova

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's water polo team, 2017 Regular Season Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Champion, travels to New Rochelle, NY Saturday, April 15 for their final league matchup with Villanova University. Slated to face the Wildcats at 12:00 pm, the Seahawks are only one victory away from a perfect 14-0 conference season.

The 13th Victory:
The Green & White secured its 13th consecutive victory with a 10-4 triumph over St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday, April 12. Freshman center Millie Pullyblank (Victoria, Australia / Haileybury Girls College) paced the Seahawks with four strikes in the first half alone, while classmate Jacqui Sjogren (Queensland, Australia / St. Andrews Anglican College) added a hat trick. The freshmen duo sits in the top ten in the conference with 51 and 40 goals, respectively.

Previewing Villanova:
Missing the MAAC tournament cut for the first time since 2011, the Wildcats are also coming off a victory over St. Francis Brooklyn. Villanova dominated the Terriers 14-4 behind five goals from Kate Stenmoen. Defensively, the Wildcats are led by netminder Olivia Perry who has 81 saves on the season.

The First Meeting:
The Seahawks won the first meeting with Villanova 17-5, behind five goals and three assists from sophomore attack Erica Hardy (Montreal, Quebec / St. Thomas). The Wildcats were able to hold on 5-4 in the opening stanza, before the Green & White pulled away with a 12-0 run. Senior goalie Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett) held Villanova scoreless in the second and third quarters to give Wagner a 14-4 lead entering the final period.

Junior utility Kimberly Watson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec / John Rennia) netted her 144th career goal during the contest to break into Wagner's all-time leading scoring list. Watson sits at No. 10 with 169 career goals, including 89 on the season.

In The Cage:
Four-year goalkeeper Emily Riddle is third on Wagner's all-time saves list. However, the standout netminder is just five saves away from becoming No. 2 after collecting five saves in the Seahawks' 10-4 win over St. Francis on April 12. We sat down with Riddle earlier this week to get to know more about the four-year starter. View the full interview HERE.

Class of 2017:
The Class of 2017, who celebrated its senior day in the Spiro Sports Center Pool on April 9 has now won 101 games throughout their time on Grymes Hill. Additionally, the trio became three-time regular season MAAC champions after the triumph over the Terriers, while looking to complete their second undefeated season against Villanova on Saturday.

Looking Ahead:
Saturday's matchup will be the final Green & White's final competition before traveling to Poughkeepsie, NY for the 2017 MAAC Championship. As the No. 1 seed, Wagner will face the No. 4 team, which will be determined after the conclusion of the season on April 15. Iona College, Marist College, and Virginia Military Institute make up the remainder of the field. Tickets for the 2017 MAAC Water Polo Championship can be purchased at maac.ticketleap.com
