Old Westbury, NY – After ten scoreless innings, the Wagner College baseball team erupted for five runs in their half of the eleventh to earn a 5-0 win over the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Bears in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. With the win, the Seahawks improve to 4-13 on the season while the Bears falter to 2-18-1.

Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) both went 2-for-5 in the victory, with Cala earning the game-winning RBIs. Junior SS
Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) and sophomore 1B
Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) also had a hit and an RBI in today's victory.
On the hill, senior RHP
Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township), the Northeast Conference (NEC) Pitcher of the Week, tossed seven shutout innings while giving up four hits and striking out three batters in taking the no decision. Freshman RHP
Chris Mormile (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood), who came on in relief of Marsh in the eighth, recorded his first collegiate win, throwing four scoreless frames, allowing just two hits, walking three and fanning four batters.
NYIT had a chance to score first in the bottom of the sixth. After Anthony Caradonna was hit by a pitch that loaded up the bases, Robert Fiato reached on a fielder's choice but the Seahawks' 3B, sophomore
Anthony Pecora (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) alertly fired a strike to sophomore catcher
James Wise (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) to record the second out of the inning and preserve the shutout. Marsh was able to close out the frame with a strikeout of Matt DeAngelis. The Bears had a second opportunity in their half of the eighth. Anthony Martelli walked and Louis Mele singled to right to give NYIT runners on first and second with one out. Mormile was able induce an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play to stop the threat.
For the third time in the game, the Seahawks were able to stop NYIT's scoring chance in the final inning of regulation. Mormile was able to get Fiato out on strikes but walked Nicolas Lombardi. The first-year Seahawk got Nick Tedesco to ground into the 6-3 double play, sending the game into extra innings.
After both teams went scoreless in the tenth, Wagner was able to get on the board first in the top of the eleventh. Pecora walked and Wise was plunked by a pitch, giving the visitors runners on first and second. Junior 2B
Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) reached on a fielder's choice and loaded the bases. Cala delivered the biggest hit of the game, a two-run single back up the middle, scoring Pecora and Wise in giving the Green & White a 2-0 advantage.
Mazzio followed up with an RBI bunt single, which scored Brey to give Wagner a 3-0 lead. Capra ripped a single up-the-middle and moved to second on the throw which brought in Cala in extending the lead to 4-0. Godino tacked on the final run of the game with a RBI single to right field bringing in Mazzio. NYIT tried to rally back in the bottom of the stanza. Martelli led off with a single to center field. Mele reached on a fielder's choice but Martelli was retired on the groundout, 6-4. Following a walk to Nick Vitale, Fiato struck out and Lombardi ended the game with a grounder to short.
