Towson, MD - The Wagner baseball team dropped the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, 2-1, to the Towson Tigers on a game-ending balk on Sunday morning.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 1-5 on the season while the Tigers improve to 5-1. The second game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Senior co-captain Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) went 5.0 innings this morning, allowing just two hits, an earned run while walking one and striking out five in getting the no decision. Sophomore reliever Douglas Molnar (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) was charged with the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season, as the second-year righty pitched 3.1 innings in relief, giving up two hits, and was charged with the winning run.

Junior backstop Brendan Benecke (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) drove in the only run for the Seahawks, as he finished 2-for-3, with the big hit coming the top of the seventh on his homerun of the season.

Junior SS Sean Mazzio (West Chester PA/Salesianum School [DE]), sophomore DH Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) and senior 1B Brad Currao (Howell, NJ/St. Rose) all had a hit for Wagner in game one.

Towson's Kevin Ross pitched six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits, walking three and striking out one. Kyle Stricker earned the win after pitching three innings of three-hit ball, allowing Benecke's round tripper while walking one and striking out four in the win.

The Tigers scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the second. With two outs, A.J. Gallo tripled to right center field. Tristan Howerton reached base after being getting hit by an errant pitch from Marsh. The Tigers executed a double steal in which Howerton was able to move from first to third while Gallo scored.

With one-out in the top of the seventh, the Seahawks evened the score at 1-1 as Benecke took Stricker's pitch over the left field wall. Currao followed with an infield single and moved to second after Mazzio beat out an infield hit, but both runners were stranded after Capra popped up to the second baseman.

Towson started the bottom of the ninth with a single off the bat of Logan Burke, who moved to third after Cuinn Mullins singled through the left side and advancing on a throwing error by the Seahawks left fielder. The Green & White was able to keep the winning run from scoring as Currao made a diving stop and fired a strike to Benecke, who applied the tag on Andrew Cassard trying to score.

Robino was called for the game-ending balk after the Tigers sent up Colin Gimblet as the pinch-hitter for Howerton.
