Scoresheet

Providence, RI – The Wagner women's water polo team (1-6) took two early leads and trailed No. 11 Princeton by just an 8-7 count at halftime before the Tigers, led by 2016 US Olympic goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson, pulled away for a 14-7 win today in the Seahawks' final match at the Bruno Classic.

The Seahawks played an even first quarter with the Tigers as the teams were tied at 4-4 entering the second quarter. Junior utility Kimberly Watson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec / John Rennie) tallied the first and second goals for the Green & White, notching her sixth and seventh markers of the tournament. Sophomore attack Erica Hardy (Montreal, Quebec / St. Thomas) added her first tally of the game to even the contest at 3-3 with two minutes remaining in the period. One minute later, junior attack Elise Begg (Newbury Park, CA / Newbury) buried the go-ahead goal to give the Seahawks a 4-3 lead. However, Princeton's goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson scored with one second remaining on the clock to even the tilt 4-4 heading into the second stanza.

The second quarter was another back-and-forth affair beginning with a quick strike from Hardy as the Seahawks went back on top by a count of 5-4. The Tigers then went on a 3-0 run that was snapped by Begg's second goal of the contest at the 2:41 mark of the half. Shortly afterwards, sophomore attack Abby Irving (Brendwood Bay, B.C. / Canadian Sport School [Stelly's]) evened the match 7-7, however, the Tigers scored a late goal to take an 8-7 lead entering intermission.

Princeton's defense and US Olympic goalkeeper Johnson held the Green & White scoreless in the second half as the Tigers registered six unanswered markers to posting the 14-7 victory.

Wagner went 1-3 at the Bruno Classic, but that one win was a big one, a 10-5 victory over No. 19 Harvard on Saturday.

The Seahawks travel to Lewisburg, PA for the Bison Invitational which will take place February 11-12.
