Staten Island, NY – After establishing a lead on Day 1, the Wagner College swimming and diving team preserved its advantage to beat defending Northeast Conference (NEC) champion Central Connecticut as well as Bryant at the Seahawk Invite on Grymes Hill.
The Seahawks defeated the Blue Devils 217.00 - 134.00, while swimming past Bryant by a score of 192.00 – 161.00. In the third dual meet of the day, the Bulldogs defeated CCSU, 204.00 – 147.00
Wagner once again had strong performances by its relay teams. The Green and White took first in the 400 Free Relay, as sophomores
Kelsey Eastman (Effort, PA / Pleasant Valley) and Makenna DePuydt (Santa Cruz, CA / Soquel), junior
Andrea Gustafsson (Malmo, Sweden / ProCivitas Privata Gymnasium), and senior
Kirsty Hessing (Bloomington, IL / Normal Community) finished in 3:35.76.
In the second relay of the morning, sophomore
Emily Moore (Temecula, CA / Great Oak), freshman Michelle D'Allegro (Skillman, NJ / Montgomery), Hessing, and Eastman touched the wall second in the 200 Medley Relay in 1:49.61.
DePuydt also finished second in the 500 Free (5:14.46), while Gustafsson finished second in the 100 Fly (58.84). Freshman Wyeth Spike (Portland, ME / Casco Bay) took second place in the 200 Back in 2:07.62.
On the diving board, junior Adrianna Warning (Henderson, NV / Coronado / Indian River State College) took second place honors on the 3-meter board with 231.95 points and third on the 1-meter board with 221.10 points.
After this weekend, the Seahawks will compete at the Frank Elm Invitational hosted by Rutgers University, from November 17-19.
