Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's water polo team staged a furious late rally, scoring three unanswered goals, and nearly adding a game-tying fourth straight with two seconds left in the game that was negated by an offensive foul, in dropping an 11-10 contest against George Washington on Saturday.
Â
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 11-16 overall and 4-5 in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) play while the Colonials improve to 13-11 overall and 6-3 in league.Â
The teams were tied at 2-2 after the first period of play before the Colonials took a 7-6 lead at the intermission.Â
Â
George Washington opened the second half on a 3-0 run to extend their lead to 10-6 before the Seahawks added a marker to trim the deficit to three, at 10-7, heading into the fourth quarter. Â
In the final frame, the Green & White were able to mount a comeback that, in the end, came up a goal short as the Colonials were able to hang on for the one-goal win.
The Seahawks will close out their regular season on Sunday with a 3:00 p.m. Senior Day matchup vs. Johnson Hopkins at the Spiro Center, before opening up play in the MAWPC Championships on Friday, November 17.
Â
Senior Day
In a ceremony prior to Sunday's contest between the Seahawks and the Blue Jays, the second-year Wagner program, led by head coach
Chris Radmonovich, will honor its lone senior,
Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia / St. Aloysius College ). A transfer from Golden West College in Huntington Beach, CA, Wolohan arrived on Grymes Hill as part of the Seahawks' inaugural men's water polo class.
Â
As a junior last season, Wolohan was named a 2016 First-Team All-MAWPC selection before going on to earn a spot on the league's All-Tournament team as well and has a great chance to be a part of the 2017 All-Conference team which will be announced this week.
