Men's Water Polo Splits On Second Day Of Julian Fraser Memorial

San Jose, CA - The Wagner men's water polo team was edged by No. 11 San Jose State on Sunday morning 12-10, before defeating Fresno Pacific 16-7 to conclude the final day of the two-day Julian Fraser Memorial Invitational as the Seahawks concluded their five-game California swing.

Wagner jumped out to a 3-2 lead after one quarter before SJSU reeled off six unanswered goals in building an 8-3 halftime lead. The Green & White chipped away at the Spartans' lead before ultimately falling short by two goals with a final score of 12-10.

Despite the loss, rookie Jasmin Kolasinac (Belgrade, Serbia / King's College) poured in four goals, while sophomore Oscar Nomura (Irvine, CA / Irvine) added a hat trick. Senior Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia / St. Aloysius College [Golden West College]), and sophomores Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA / California High) and Aaron Leighton (Lake Forest, CA / El Toro) each netted one goal apiece.

Junior Teo Dadic (Dubrovnik, Croatia / Gimnazija Dubrovnik [Long Beach City College]) dished out six assists while rookie Jack Leighton (Lake Forest, CA / El Toro) added three of his own.  Junior goalkeeper Cameron Woldt (San Diego, CA / Serra High School [San Diego Mesa College]) registered seven blocks and four steals in the defeat.

The second match of the day ended in favor of the Seahawks. The Wagner offense was led by Miller who posted four goals in the win.  Wolohan found the back of the net three times, while Kolasinac, Dadic, J. Leighton, and freshman Jordi Alonso (Barcelona, Spain / Jesuites Sarria-Sant Ignasi) all contributed two goals apiece. Junior Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec / Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) registered a goal of his own as Dadic and Wolohan dished out four and three assists, respectively. 

Woldt protected the cage, recording seven blocks and two steals for the Seahawks.
 
Wagner, now 10-15 overall and 3-3 in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play, will resume MAWPC play, hosting the next three matchups, starting with Fordham on November 3 as they look to avenge the Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.  On Saturday, November 4, the Green & White will take on George Washington at 1:00 p.m. before a 3:00 p.m. swim off against Johns Hopkins on Sunday, November 5.
