Bronx, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team held an early two-goal lead before the No. 20 Fordham University Rams rallied to score four goals in the final frame to edge out the Seahawks, 10-9, on Wednesday evening at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.

With the loss, the Green & White falls to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play while the Rams improve to 12-6 and 4-1 in conference matches.

Wagner took a 3-1 lead in the first period after freshman Jack Leighton (Lake Forest, CA/ El Toro) netted the first goal of the game for the Seahawks while fellow classmate Jasmin Kolasinac (Belgrade, Serbia/King's College) netted the go-ahead marker at the 3:12 mark of the frame and with just 42 seconds remaining in the period.

Fordham rallied back in the second quarter, scoring three times while yielding a goal from junior Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec / Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) at the 2:51 mark as the game was tied at 4-4 heading into the intermission.

When play resumed for the second half, the Seahawks went back ahead by two at 6-4 after junior Teo Dadic (Dubrovnik, Croatia / Gimnazija Dubrovnik [Long Beach City College]) and senior Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia / St. Aloysius College [Golden West College]) found the back of the net.

Before the end of the third quarter, the Rams were able to knot the contest with a pair of goals as both teams were evened at 6-6 heading into the final period of regulation.

After trading goals to start the final stanza, Fordham recorded a pair of extra-man goals from Phillip Wang and Miller-Tolt in taking a two-goal advantage at 9-7.

The relentless Seahawk offense was able to cut the deficit to one at 9-8 after Leighton netted his second goal of the contest. With 2:43 showing on the clock, Fordham's Ethan Vandeventer was able to find the goal inside the right post for another extra-man goal and giving the home squad a 10-8 lead.

Wagner was able to close the gap to one, 10-9, with 1:42 left after sophomore Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA / California High) was able to net 13th goal of the season. The visitors had one final chance with under a minute to go in the contest. The Seahawks worked the ball over to the left side of the pool, but Vandeventer was able to steal the ball away in securing the one-goal win for Fordham.

For the contest, junior goalkeeper Cameron Woldt (San Diego, CA / Serra [San Diego Mesa College]) was credited with seven saves in tonight's MAWPC contest.  Kolasinac, Wolohan and Leighton each finished with two goals in the game.

The Seahawks will head across the country to California as they will take on No. 4 ranked, Stanford University on October 20 before competing in the Julian Fraser Memorial Invitational on October 21 and October 22.

Over the two-day invitational, the Green & White will take on Santa Clara and UC Davis on 10/21 before concluding their California tour against No. 11 ranked San Jose State and Fresno Pacific University on 10/22.
