Men's Tennis Earns Second-Straight Victory In 4-1 Road Victory At Hofstra On Friday

Hempstead, NY - The Wagner College men's tennis team remain undefeated in dual match play after securing a 4-1 victory on the road at Hofstra on Friday afternoon.
 
With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 2-0 while the Pride fall to 0-1 as today marked Hofstra's home and dual match opener.
 
Wagner took two of three during doubles action to secure the first point of the match. After falling in No. 1 doubles, the pairing of junior Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) and sophomore Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL/Coral Springs Christian Academy) defeated Marcus Smith and Jan Leithner, 6-2, at No. 2.
 
The Seahawks clinched the point for doubles at No. 3 when juniors Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands/Scala College Secondary School) and Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine/High School #78) edged the duo of David Schrott and Nick Silvestri, 7-6 (7-3).
 
Hofstra tied the match at 1-1 after Leithner was able to get past junior Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School), 6-1; 6-2, at No. 3 singles play.
 
The Green & White rebounded with Poland earning a 6-1; 6-2 decision at No. 5 singles while sophomore Dylan Walters (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithians Boys' College) slipped by Niko Vulinovich, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 play.
 
Wagner claimed the match at No. 6 when senior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) defeated Nick Silvestri, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
 
With today's wins, Poland improved to a team-best 9-3 overall and while both Boyd and Walters each earned their seventh overall victories of the year. Boyd claimed his 55th career victory while winning his tenth career win out of the No. 6 position.
 
The Green & White will be in action over the weekend as they head up to the Bronx to compete at the two-day Fordham University Invitational.
