Men's Tennis Concludes Two-Day Fordham Four-In-The-Fall Event

Boyd Claims "C" Singles Title; Wins "B" Doubles Title With Allen Wang

Bronx, NY - The Wagner men's tennis team completed play at the two-day Fordham Four-In-The-Fall, hosted by the Rams this past weekend. 

Senior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) highlighted the Seahawks' performance at the two-day invitational, as he claimed the "C" singles title and alongside classmate, Allen Wang (Clovis, CA/Buchanan), clinched the "B" doubles title. Boyd/Wang received a bye in the Round of 16 before squaring off against Nick Volos/Hugo de Andrade of Queens College in the quarterfinals, in which the Seahawk pairing bested, 6-2. 

In the semifinals, the Green & White duo were pitted against their second tandem from Queens College in Stanislas Bedrune and Richard Sec. Boyd/Wang outlasted the Knights' pair, 6-3 in reaching the finals. In the championship round, Boyd/Wang were matched up with Fordham's Max Green/Allen Thornes. After a back-and-forth match, Boyd/Wang was able to seal the victory, 6-4, in claiming their second doubles crown of the season.  

In singles action, Boyd outlasted FDU's Miki Nobuzawa in the quarterfinals, 8-6, before defeating Roman Laga of Queens College, 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 in advancing to the championship round. In the finale, Boyd took the first set over FDU's Maciej Autuch, 6-1, before Autuch rallied in the second set, 6-2 in setting up a deciding third-set.  In another tight contest match, Boyd was able to clinch the title with an 11-9 winner in the final set. 

"A" Bracket
Junior Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) earned an 8-6 decision in the quarterfinals over Queens College's, Lucas Martinez, before bowing out in the semifinals to eventual champion, Adam Chan of Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-4; 6-3. 

In doubles action, sophomore Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL/Coral Springs Christian Academy) and teammate Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands/Scala College Secondary School) got past Moric Budinsky and William Bourne of FDU, 6-1, in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual "A" doubles champions, Fordham's Fabian Mauritzson and Lutwin de Macar, 6-3. 

"B" Bracket
In the consolation bracket of the "B" Bracket, Wang reached the championship round after defeating de Macar, 8-3. Wang dropped an 8-1 decision in the championship round to Finn Kemper, 8-1.

"C" Bracket
In addition to Boyd claiming the title, Kneppelhout bested Fordham's Jeremy Chung, 8-5 to advance to the semifinals before he fell to Autuch, 6-1; 6-3.

"D" Bracket
Newcomer Patricio Hernandez-Pons (Miami, FL/Es International School) earned a bye in the Round of 16 while Wang blanked Harris Durkovic of Fordham, 8-0. Both Hernandez-Pons and Wang were eliminated in the semifinals after Wang fell to Bedrune, 8-6 while Hernandez-Pons fell in three sets: 1-6, 6-1, 10-2. 

The Seahawks will compete at the upcoming ITA Regional, which will be contested over six-days from October 18 through 23 in New Haven, CT at the campus of Yale University.
