Lawrenceville, NJ -
In their first dual match of the season, the Wagner College men's tennis earned a 6-1 victory over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, Rider, on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

The Seahawks improve to 1-0 on the season while the Broncs fall to 0-4. This afternoon's victory marked win No. 1 for first-year head coach Shem Filipek.

"I am proud of my team as they earned the victory this afternoon," commented Filipek. "We have played three straight invitational, but the team's focus was to compete for every point in our first dual match of the season."

Since 2004, this afternoon's contest marked the 21st meeting between the two programs, with the Green & White extending their win streak to five straight over Rider.

Wagner opened up the match by sweeping all three doubles matches in securing the first point of the match.

Juniors Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands / Scala College Secondary School) and Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine/High School #78) blanked the Broncs pairing of Diego Delgado/Jeremy Van Herwarde, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles.

Junior Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) and sophomore Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL/Coral Springs Christian Academy) teamed up at No. 2 doubles in earning a 6-1 victory over Griffin Clark/Brandon Gildea.

In No. 1 doubles, juniors Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa / Kersney College Secondary School) and sophomore Dylan Walters (Johannesburg, South Africa / St Stithians Boys' College) got past the Rider duo of Javier Melendez/Lysander Almonte, 6-2.

The Green & White secured five of the six singles matches with Poland securing the victory for the Seahawks in No. 4 singles after he bested Delgado, 6-0; 6-3. For the third-year Seahawk, it marked his 34th career singles win and just his third in the Flight No. 3 position.

Senior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) earned his 54th career victory, defeating Clark at No. 5 singles, 6-2; 6-2. The win marked Boyd's 11th triumph out of the No. 5 spot in his Seahawk career.

Wagner will be back in action on October 13 as they head back to Hempstead, NY to take on Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) members, Hofstra. The match has a 3:00 p.m. start time.
