The Pioneers were within two points on two occasions in the second half, the last of which came at the 8:03 mark when McKnight's layup made it a 55-53 game. Carey steadied things for Wagner at this point, recording an old-fashioned three-point play with 7:37 left which built the lead back to five at 58-53 and capped a stretch where he scored 11 straight points for the Seahawks.
Sacred Heart would get as close as three on a Buovac three-pointer from the right baseline with 3:27 to go to make it 63-60, before the Seahawks closed the game on a 12-4 run in pulling away for the 75-64 win.
Wagner outshot SHU 45.8 percent to 42.6 percent while the rebounding battle was even at 37-37.
