Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner women's swimming and diving team went 1-1 at the LIU Tri-Meet over the last two days, swimming past LIU Brooklyn 226.00 - 68.00, while falling to Northeastern, 178.50 - 136.50.
The Seahawks now move to 7-2 overall in dual meets this season and 2-1 in meets against Northeast Conference (NEC) opponents.
Wagner's two seniors,
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI / Hawaii Preparatory Academy) and
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA / Troy High School), who will be honored at tomorrow's senior meet against St. Francis Brooklyn once again led the way with two individual victories each.
Nihipali won the 100 back (56.81) and 200 back (2:09.53), the latter of which she finished ahead of teammates Paige Macneil (Branford, CT / Branford, 2:14.02) and
Stephanie Upston (Auckland, New Zealand / Baradene College, 2:17.37). Claesson touched the wall first in the 100 breast (1:06.05) and 200 breast (2:23.07).
The two seniors also contributed on the Wagner relay teams, which finished with three second places in the meet. Claesson, freshman

Kirsty Hessing (Bloomington, IL / Normal Community), and freshman
Kelsey Eastman (Effort, PA / Pleasant Valley) combined for second in the 200 medley relay in 1:46.96.

Andrea Gustafsson (Malmo, Sweden / ProCivitas Privata Gymnasium) finished second in the 400 free relay (3:31.95), while the 200 free relay, consisting of Nihipali, Gustafsson, Eastman, and freshman Makenna DePuydt (Santa Cruz, CA / Soquel) earned a second place in 1:36.72.
Junior tri-captain
Maddie McNichol (Downingtown, PA / Henderson) earned a first place finish in the 1000 free (10.32.27), while finishing second in the 200 free (1:57.61). Gustafsson had the last individual victory for the Seahawks, finishing first in the 100 IM (1:01.37).
Sophomore
Leahi Camacho (Kailua Kona, HI / Kealakene) touched second in both the 500 free (5:14.43) and 200 fly (2:09.95), while freshman
Katie Mulcahy (Helmetta, NJ / Spotswood) finished second in the 200 IM (2:12.92).
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow, as they host cross-borough rival, St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers at the Spiro Sports Center at noon.
