Seahawks Begin First Ever Conference Season Against Johns Hopkins University

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team will travel to the Nation's Capital (Washington D.C.) this weekend as conference play commences in the newly formed Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).

The first-year Seahawks are scheduled for two matches on Saturday, September 24, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Natatorium inside the Newton White Athletic Center against Division III Johns Hopkins University. The No. 9 ranked Blue Jays are coming into Saturday mornings' contest looking to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to three West Coast teams last weekend.

Wagner will then square off against No. 16 ranked George Washington University (3-3) at 3:30 pm before making the short trip to Annapolis, MD on Sunday for a showdown with Navy (5-3) at 9:00 am.

The Green & White (3-7) enter the weekend after securing a pair of victories over St. Francis Brooklyn and University of Toronto at the Bucknell University's Bison Invitational. In only its ninth game of existence, the upstart water polo team registered its first-ever victory over a nationally-ranked foe, defeating then No. 18 ranked, St. Francis Brooklyn, 12-11.  With the game tied at 11 in the final quarter, junior utility Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius College/Golden West College) drilled the game-winning goal with one second left on the clock.

The Seahawks completed their Day 2 sweep with a back-and-forth, 10-8 victory over Toronto. Similar to the conclusion of the St. Francis Brooklyn contest, with the score deadlocked at 8-8, back-to-back goals from freshman Danny Rafael (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City) propelled the Green & White to a two-goal win over the Varsity Blues 2-0.

Head Coach Chris Radmonovich will look to his top scorers, Wolohan and sophomore Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) to pace the Seahawks offense.

"The two have been playing at a high-level all-season, which is truly an advantage for our young squad," commented Radmonovich.  "They possess great leadership qualities, inside the pool and out and find a way to keep the team's composure in check during critical moments of matches."

Wolohan, the Seahawks' leading scorer with 26 goals, was recently named to the CWPA Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season after scoring a netting 12 goals at the Bison Invitational. The Golden West College transfer recorded four goals in each of the Green & White's wins along with a hat-trick against No. 14 Brown.

The Seahawks' first game against the Blue Jays will be available to stream on the Johns Hopkins portal, while the contest with George Washington University will be available on RaiseHigh Live.
