Emittsburg, MD – The Wagner College softball team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader by the scores of 6-1 and 4-3 to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
With the losses, Wagner falls to 20-27, 4-10 in the NEC, while the Mount improves to 15-36 and 6-10 in conference play.

In game one, Wagner cracked the scoreboard first, putting up a run in the first inning. Junior left fielder
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) reached second base on an error made by Mount's right fielder. The next batter, freshman catcher
Jessica Carlucci (Manalapan, NJ/Saint John Vianney) singled to right field and scored Gilbert in taking the 1-0 lead.
The Mountaineers answered right back in the bottom half of the first inning, notching three runs. Mount St. Mary's Marisa Mayes led off the inning, reaching on an error by the Seahawks' shortstop. Back to back singles moved Mayes to third before she scored on a wild pitch to tie the contest at 1-1.
Wagner called a pitching change and brought junior
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) to the circle with no outs and bases loaded. Goodale gave up a double to her first batter faced which scored two more runs before she shut down the next three batters.
The Seahawks had opportunities in the third and fourth innings but were unable to execute as they ended both innings with bases loaded each time.
Mount St. Mary's extended the lead to 4-1 in the third and then notched two insurance runs, one in the bottom of the fifth inning and the other in the sixth to secure the 6-1 win.
Gilbert finished the contest 2-for-3 with one run scored while sophomore first baseman
Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster) also registered two hits for Wagner. The other three Seahawk hits came from Goodale and freshman second baseman
Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawerenceville School).
Game 2 Recap: Mount St. Mary's 4 Wagner 3
In game two, Wagner and the Mount remained scoreless until the third inning when the Seahawks posted a run to take the lead. Mount responded with two runs in fifth to take a 2-1 edge.
It all came down to the seventh inning when Wagner rallied to regain a 3-2 lead before Mount's Rachel Heinze delivered a walk-off two-run homer to record the 4-3 comeback win.
Wagner put up 10 hits in the contest. Junior
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) recorded two doubles with two runs scored while Gilbert and Prihoda were both 2-for-4.
In the third inning, Tredway doubled to left center with one out. Freshman right fielder
Lauren Serrato (Litchfield, AZ/Verrado) singled up the middle to score Tredway.
Mount's Holly Buckel then smashed a two-run shot over the center field fence in the fifth inning.
Wagner rallied in top of the seventh when Tredway led off with a double down the left field line. Prihoda singled on a bunt and advanced Tredway to third base. Tredway scored when Serrato hit a ball to the Mountaineers' shortstop who overthrew first base. Senior catcher
Megan Moore (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) then singled to right field to score Prihoda to give Wagner a 3-2 advantage.
This didn't last long as Mount also rallied in the bottom half of the seventh inning after Jessica Greenewald was walked. The very next batter, Heinze, supplied the walk-off home run to center field and secured the 4-3 win.
Sophmore
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado) suffered the heartbreaking loss (7-14) giving up four runs on six hits with three strike outs. Katie Olson (3-7) picked up the win for the Mountaineers.
Wagner returns to Grymes Hill to host LIU Brooklyn tomorrow at 12:00 pm in the final doubleheader of the Seahawks' 2016 season.
