Staten Island, NY – The #20 Wagner (23-9, 8-0 MAAC) women's water polo squad preps for Senior Day as the Seahawks will serve host to five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) institutions on Saturday, April 16. The Green & White are scheduled to face-off with Villanova (11-15, 4-3 MAAC) at 9:00 a.m. and VMI (9-13, 2-5 MAAC) at 4:00 p.m. which will serve as the team's senior game.
Prior to the opening sprint of the Wagner-VMI contest a trio of seniors;
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD/ Broadneck),
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek), and
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA/ San Ramon Valley) will be honored for their accomplishments. The trio have accumulated the most wins in a four-year span of any class in program history with 99 victories. The senior class has also spearheaded academic success as each senior has earned All-MAAC Academic Team honors in their careers and have been a major part in the team earning the Association College of Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) highest GPA in the nation four years running.
Doerfler is fifth in program history with 258 career goals and fourth in exclusions drawn with 184. Doerfler has also been named All-MAAC First (2015) and Second Team (2014) during her career while earning a spot on the 2015 All-MAAC Tournament Team.
Lundgren is the program leader in goals and steals with 395 and 491 respectively. She sits third in assists with 224 while claiming conference Offensive Player (2015) and Defensive Player (2014) of the Year awards. Lundgren is a three-time All-MAAC First Team selection while garnering ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention a season ago.
Rodriguez is first in program history in assists with 368 and sixth in goals with 226. She was named the MAAC Championship MVP in 2015 after being selected to the All-MAAC Second Team following the regular season. Rodriguez has started every game of her career which has reached to 140 straight starts and was named ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention after her performance in 2015.
