Women's Tennis Drops NEC Home Tilt To Saint Francis U on Friday Morning

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team dropped its Northeast Conference (NEC) match at home against the Saint Francis University Red Flash, 4-0, on Friday morning.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 7-5 on the year and 2-2 in league play while the Red Flash improves to 5-13 and 2-0 in the conference.

Saint Francis U took the first point in the overall match by sweeping all three doubles. Sophomore Samantha Hodges (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy), an All-NEC Rookie Team choice last year, fought valiantly in Flight No. 3, taking the first 6-1 over Raksha Bode. In the second set, Bode cruised to a 6-0 victory, forcing a deciding third set.  In a back-and-forth battle,  Bode escaped with a 6-4 decision as the Red Flash took a 4-0 lead in the match.

Saint Francis U secured the overall win at No. 4 singles as freshman Rina Baynes (Johns Creek, GA/Chattahoochee) was defeated by Brittini Jentz, 4-6, 0-6. 

The Seahawks will look to bounce back in their next contest, scheduled for Sunday, April 17, when Wagner travels to Smithfield, RI to tangle with the Bryant University Bulldogs at the Bryant Tennis Complex for in a10:00 a.m. start.
