New Haven, CT – The Wagner softball team (9-11) defeated Yale 5-1 in game one before dropping a 1-0 decision in extra innings in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Game 1 Recap: Wagner 5 Yale 1 After a scoreless three innings, the Seahawks let up a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but that would be all Wagner would give up to the Bulldogs.
Wagner answered right back putting up three runs in the top of the fifth followed by another two in the top of the sixth to secure the 5-1 victory.
Freshman right fielder
Lauren Serrato (Litchfield, AZ/Verrado) was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored while junior centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
With one out in the fifth inning, junior third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) got on base off of a Bulldog error. Junior
Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain), the designated player, launched a double to left field to advance High to third base. A RBI single to center field from Serrato scored High and then Serrato scored after Tredway singled. Junior left fielder
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) then singled to left field to score Tredway and close out the inning with a 3-1 lead.
First baseman
Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster) doubled to left field to start the sixth inning and then scored off of a
Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawerenceville School) single. Serrato then scored Prihoda when she singled to centerfield.
Sophomore
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado) picked up her fourth win on the year, allowing one run on 11 hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2 Recap: Yale 1 Wagner 0 Strong Seahawk and Bulldog defense allowed neither team to score, sending the contest into extra innings.
Despite registering six hits from six different Seahawks, Yale scored in the bottom of the ninth when the Bulldogs had two runners on base and Carlin Hagmeier singled to left center to score Laina Do and secure it's its fifth win of the season.
Junior
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) took the loss after 8.1 innings pitched, allowing one run on seven hits with four strikeouts.
The six Seahawk hits came from Tredway, Goodale, Prihoda, Gilbert, senior catcher
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) and freshman shortstop
Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ/Saint John Vianney).
The Seahawks return to the field on Tuesday, March 29, when they travel to Queens to face St. John's University for a single game at 2:30 p.m.
