DeLand, FL – A seventh inning rally in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against Binghamton gave Wagner a split on the first day of the Stetson Classic after dropping a 6-2 decision to George Mason in the first game.
With the split, Wagner now holds a 6-8 record overall.
Game 1: George Mason 6, Wagner 2 George Mason hopped on the scoreboard first, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning followed by another two in the bottom of the second to take an early 4-0 lead.
Wagner got the bats rolling in the third inning when freshman shortstop
Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ/Saint John Vianney) led off the inning with a double to right center. Freshman right fielder
Lauren Serrato (Litchfield Park, AZ/Verrado) sacrificed Krumbine into scoring position for junior centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West), who laced a RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Senior designated player
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley), and Krumbine were walked to start the top of the fourth inning. The next batter, Serrato, singled up the middle to score Bott and make it 4-2.
George Mason tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth but the Seahawks were unable to respond in the seventh after Krumbine and Serrato each singled to start the inning but were left on base.
Krumbine and Serrato were both 2-for-2 in the contest.
Other Seahawk hits came from sophomore first baseman
Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/ Earl Wooster) and freshman second baseman (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) who each registered a single.
Sophomore
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado) pitched her fifth complete game of the season, giving up six runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2: Wagner 3 Binghamton 1 Strong defense from both squads kept the game scoreless through the first three innings.
Binghamton, however, got on the board first off of a solo shot over the left field fence by Lisa Cadogan in bottom of the fourth.
Senior catcher
Megan Moore (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) singled to lead off the inning and sophomore
Maite Reece (Covina, CA/Gabrielino) entered the game to pinch run for her.
Junior third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Reece to second before Prihoda singled to left field and got Reece to third. A scene of chaos erupted with run downs between Reece and Prihoda and caused a Bearcat throwing error to right field and allowed Prihoda to score and tie the game 1-1.
The Seahawks rallied in the seventh inning with two outs, coming up with two runs when Prihoda roped a triple to the right center fence to score High, who was on first base. Krumbine then singled up the middle to score Prihoda to make it 3-1.
Junior
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) pitched lights out and blanked the Bearcats in the bottom of the seventh to earn her fourth win of the season. The Florida product pitched the full seven innings, giving up only one run on three hits with no walks.
Prihoda finished the day 3-for-6 with one RBI and two runs scored while Krumbine was 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
