Meet ResultsStaten Island, NY – The Wagner women's swimming & diving team concluded its regular season schedule for the 2015-16 season, falling 161-139 to fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member Central Connecticut this afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center. Despite the loss, the Seahawks broke two pool records, collected eight victories and also honored its nine seniors in
Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA),
Michele Detka (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado[University of Houston]),
Kara Lacoste (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee Comprehensive),
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/Easthampton),
Erin Malone (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township),
Meghan Mendez (Export, PA/PA Cyber),
Kaitlin Murtha (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield),
Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) and
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) at the completion of the meet.
Shaw was victorious in both of her individual events, recording a time of 10:37.40 in the 1,000 Free and 5:11.66 in the 500 Free. Lucia also picked up two first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 Butterfly, posting times of 58.63 and 2:08.29, respectively.
Junior
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy) won the 100 Back in a pool record time of 55.58.
Nihipali was also a part of the 200 Medley Relay team with junior
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy), Detka and freshman
Dorian McMenemy (Northborough, MA/Algonquin Regional) that also set a pool record with a time of 1:45.97.
The Seahawks recorded a 1-2-3 sweep in the 500 Free. Shaw placed first, while Lucia took second (10:47.99) and sophomore
Leahi Camacho (Kailua Kona, HI/Kealakene) took third overall in a time of 10:51.64.
Claesson had two second place finishes on the day. The California product swam a 1:05.56 in the 100 Breaststroke followed by a 2:23.39 in the 200 Breaststroke.
Sophomore Samantha Lavrich (Audubon, PA/Methacton) of Wagner diving was undefeated on the boards this afternoon. Lavrich and Curry took first and second on the 3-meter boards as Lavrich posted 231 points and Curry tallied 222.02. The sophomore then finished with 206.62 points on the 1-meter board while Curry took third place with 192.52 points.
The Blue Devils set five pool records on the day in the 100 Free as Christine Rasile touched the wall in 51.87, Aidan Devers in the 200 Back (2:04.57), Maddy Garber in the 200 Breaststroke (2:20.33) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.69), and in the 400 Free Relay (3:32.25).
Wagner returns to competition beginning Wednesday, Febuary 24 at the NEC Championships in Boston, MA.
