Women’s Basketball Falls To Robert Morris 79-49

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's basketball team dropped a 79-49 decision to Robert Morris this afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) play at the Spiro Sports Center.
 
Junior guard Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bergtraum) tossed in a game-high 24 points and continues to lead the nation in scoring, checking in at 28.7 ppg. following today's game. In NEC games, Nwajei averages 33.4 ppg. The Nancy Lieberman Award finalist upped her school-record scoring total up to 2,039 career points.
 
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 5-23 on the season, 3-14 in NEC play while the Colonials improved to 16-12 on the season and 10-7 in the conference.
 
Prior to the game, seniors Jazmine Hamlet (New York, NY), Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) and Tessa Wade (Penn Valley, PA/Lower Merion) were honored.  Nwajei was also honored, as she was presented with the game ball that was used on Monday night at Fairleigh Dickinson when she became the first junior in NEC history to eclipse the 2,000-point mark.
 
Senior guard Jasmine Hamlet (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) and sophomore guard Tanasia Russell (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) chipped in with six points apiece for the Seahawks.  Anna Nike Stamalamprou and Megan Smith paced the Colonials with 14 points apiece while Ashley Ravelli added 11. RMU used a 21-11 second quarter to build a 39-24 halftime lead and extended the advantage to 61-39 after three quarters.
 
Robert Morris held a 34-16 edge in points in the paint, and led in points off turnovers (12-6), second-chance points (11-5), fast break points (10-6) and bench scoring (29-14).
 
The Seahawks conclude the 2015-16 season on Monday, February29 at LIU Brooklyn in a 7:00 p.m. start.
