Score SheetPrinceton, NJ – The #19(T) Wagner (7-7) women's water polo team defeated Cal Lutheran (0-4) by a score if 17-2 to end play at the Princeton Invitational.
The Seahawks opened the game on a 6-0 run which stretched into the second quarter. Senior attacker
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA/ San Ramon Valley) assisted on five of Wagner's first six goals with senior
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek) and sophomore
Kimberly Watson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/ John Rennie) tallying two scores each during the run. Senior
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD/ Broadneck) and sophomore
Lacey Anderson (Thousand Oaks, CA/ Westlake) added a goal apiece during the offensive run.
Cal Lutheran added two scores in the second quarter but that would be the only goals the Regals would accumulate on the day as the Seahawk defense was smothering. The Green & White's aggressive defense led to a total of 13 steals during the contest. Junior goalie
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta/ Dr. E.P. Scarlett) was in the net for the first half and registered three saves as sophomore
Anna Ward (Grayslake, IL/ Mundelein) played the second half accumulating three blocks of her own.
For the contest Lundgren would tally six scores and dish out three assists to lead the Seahawks to the 17-2 victory. Rodrigues found the back of the net twice to go along with her five helpers. Doerfler rattled the cage once more in the second half to bring her game total to two scores. Sophomore
Elise Begg (Newbury Park, CA/ Newbury) contributed two scores and assist on the day. Juniors
Amanda Sutherland (Denton, TX/ Denton Ryan) and
Gabryel Oloapu (Auckland, New Zealand/ Diocesan) each added a goal as well.
The Seahawks are back in action against Princeton at the Bucknell Invite on February 27.
