Staten Island, NY - With four players tallying double-figures for the third time this season, the Wagner men's basketball team defeated local rival, the College of Staten Island (CSI) Dolphins, 94-42, on Thursday evening at the Spiro Sports Center.

With the win, the Green & White picked up its first home victory of the season, improving to 4-6 on the year while the visiting Dolphins, who boasted a three-game winning streak entering tonight's contest, fall to 5-5 on the season. In the process, fifth-year head coach Bashir Mason earned career victory No. 75.  Coach Mason's last two milestones, wins no. 50 and 75 have both come against the College of Staten Island.

Freshman guard Connor Ferrell (Conyers, GA/Rockdale County [DME Sports Academy]) led the way for the Wagner offense, scoring a career-high 20 points while falling one rebound short of his first career double-double, securing a game-high nine caroms in the win.  Sophomore guard Devin Liggeons (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep Charter) also had a career night off the bench, tallying 17 points on 4-of-5 shooting in 18 minutes of action.  Freshman guard Blake Francis (Herndon, VA/Westfield) chipped in 14 on 6-of-10 shooting in 26 minutes in reserve.  Sophomore combo guard Elijah Davis (Bronx, NY/Lincoln [Odessa College (TX] netted 11 points.

The stifling Seahawks' defense didn't allow a CSI player to score in double-digits as Khaleeq Baum and Edin Bracic led the team with nine points apiece.  Baum grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds while Frank Schettino, the team's leading scorer, was held without a point, but did distribute a game-best six assists.  The visiting Dolphins took an early 5-2 lead after Kevon Murphy was able to muscle in a layup chance with 17:38 in the first half, which followed Robert Rossiter's opening three-pointer to kick off the contest.

Wagner responded with an 18-0 run over the next six minutes in taking a 20-5 lead. During the spurt, the Seahawks converted on 7-of-9 attempts from the floor while hitting both its three-pointers.  Freshman guard Connor Ferrell (Conyers, GA/Rockdale County [DME Sports Academy) was the Green & White's catalyst, scoring seven of the 18 points.  The stifling Green & White defense held the Dolphins without a field goal during the run.  Khaleeq Baum ended the run with a layup at the 10:47 mark, which prompted the visitors to outscore the Seahawks, 13-10, over the next 4:02 in trimming the deficit to 12, 30-18, as Baum sank both free-throw attempts.

Ferrell continued his hot start connecting on his second trifectas of the stanza in helping Wagner outscore Staten Island, 17-10, and take a 47-28 lead at the intermission.  Wagner was in complete control in the second half, increasing its lead to 76-36 with 7:40 left in the contest as redshirt sophomore forward AJ Sumbry (East Windsor, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep [Quinnipiac]) was able to bank one in off a well-timed feed from Francis.

The Seahawks closed out the game scoring the final fifteen points en route to its largest win of the season.  Wagner finished the game shooting a season-high 53.2 percent (33-of-62) while converting on a season-best 52.6 percent from long range (10-of-19).  The bench produced its highest scoring tally of the season, as the Seahawks reserves scored 70 of its 94 points.  Wagner also held a 58-26 edge on the boards, which included a 41-16 mark on the defensive end.

The Seahawks open Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Thursday, December 29 as they welcome the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils to the Spiro Sports Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
