Lewisburg, PA –
The first-year Wagner College men's water polo team secured a fifth place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship after defeating No. 6 Navy 16-13. Eight Seahawks scored to combine for a total 16 goals, as freshman netminder Joseph Ferraro (Newport Beach, CA/Newport Harbor) registered eight saves.

The third meeting between the two East Region teams was a fast-paced match-up with three tallies in the first minute alone. The Midshipmen opened the first quarter with back-to-back markers, before junior utility Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius [Golden West College]) put Wagner on the board. The Seahawks gave up their final point of the quarter to Navy's Matt Skowronski on a penalty shot, before taking the lead for the remainder of the contest behind goals from sophomore utility Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/Selwyn [Golden West College]) and freshman driver Aaron Leighton (Lake Forest, CA/El Toro).

Leading 5-3, the second stanza proved to be a battle between freshman standout Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA/California High) and Navy's David Huber. However, Miller scored three goals to Huber's two, bringing his total to four on the day. Additionally, freshman 2-meter guard Danny Rafael netted his lone goal of the matchup, as the Seahawks entered intermission ahead 9-5.

The Midshipmen made it a game in the second half when they went on a 4-0 run midway through the third quarter to put Navy within one of Wagner at 11-10. However, Wagner juniors Wolohan and James Grady (Boca Raton, FL/Boca Raton) ended the period with back-to-back goals to extend the Green & White's lead 13-10.

Despite a back-and-forth fourth stanza where both teams tallied three points apiece, the Seahawks defeated conference rival Navy 16-13 to finish their inaugural season in fifth place at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship.

No. 1 seeded Bucknell University was crowned the 2016 Champion, earning an automatic berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men's Water Polo Championship held at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley, California from December 2-4.

In addition to being named All-Conference team selections, Wolohan and freshman driver Oscar Nomura (Irvine, CA/Irvine) were named to the First and Second All-Tournament Teams, respectively. Wolohan notched a total of nine tallies on the weekend, while Nomura registered four.
