Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team suffered an 8-6 loss to Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) rival Fordham University in a hard fought contest.
Fordham utility Magnus Sims opened the tilt with an early marker to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. However, freshman driver
Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA/California High) countered for the Seahawks on a power play opportunity to tie the contest. From then on, the first three quarters were a back-and-forth match-up between the New York City rivals before the Rams took a two point lead early in the final stanza.
Two-time Rookie of the Week Honor Roll member, Miller and sophomore utility
Devin O'Donnell (Point-Claire, Quebec/Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) would go on to score once more before the first quarter buzzer to end the period tied 3-3.
The Seahawks took their first lead of the game less than two minutes into the second quarter when O'Donnell fired his second goal of the contest. The sophomore transfer registered a hat-trick with two minutes remaining in the half, but a late goal by Fordham's Tristen Knoflick evened the game 5-5 heading into intermission.
Junior utility
Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius College [Golden West College]) scored the Green & White's lone goal in the second half to tie up the bout once again at 6-6. However, Joseph Agabs and Jake Miller-Tolt tallied two more markers for the Rams to defeat the rookie team 8-6.
Wagner travels to Lewisburg, PA on Saturday, November 5 for its final regular season contest against fellow MAWPC member Bucknell University.
