Day Two Results
Lewisburg, PA - The Wagner men's water polo team downed Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference West Region member No. 8 Connecticut College 18-6 in Day 2 of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship. A total of nine Seahawks scored throughout the contest as Wagner won by its largest margin of victory this season.Â
Sophomore utility
Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) led the way offensively with four goals, scoring the Green & White's first marker only thirty seconds into the match-up on a man-up opportunity. Despite a quick counter goal by Connecticut's Stephan Cress, the Seahawks went on a 4-0 run to end the first stanza ahead 5-1.Â
The Camels kept it close in the second quarter, outscoring Wagner 4-2. Connecticut's junior Cress opened up the quarter with back-to-back tallies before All-Conference First Team selection
Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius [Golden West College]) fired his second goal of the day on a power play opportunity. Freshman standout
Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA/California High) registered the Seahawks' seventh marker on his way to a hat-trick completed in the second half. The Camels scored once more before intermission as they trailed the Green & White 7-5 entering the second half.
The Seahawks scored nine unanswered goals coming out of intermission to take control of the game. Both Wolohan and Miller secured hat-tricks before the end of the third quarter as freshman goalie
Joseph Ferraro (Newport Beach, CA/Newport Harbor) and the rookie team held Connecticut scoreless. The Camels wouldn't score again until the final four minutes of the game to bring their point total to six.
Tanner Kaplan (Trabuco Canyon, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) and
Tristan O'Connell (Boca Raton, FL / Saint Andrew's School) rounded out the victory with the Green & White's seventeenth and eighteenth goals.Â
The Wagner men's water polo team will end its inaugural season tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in the placement round of the MAWPC Championship. The Seahawks will battle for fifth place with the No. 6 United States Naval Academy who defeated Mercyhurst 16-5.Â
